Museum of Modern Art-MOMA  Picasso Sculpture. Through  February 7
This is  the first such museum exhibition in the United States in nearly half a century. The exhibition features more than 100 sculptures, complemented by selected works on paper and photographs.
Timed tickets are required for entry to Picasso Sculpture. A limited number of same-day timed tickets will be available onsite, depending on capacity.




Metropolitan Museum of Art Celebrating Sax .  Instruments and Innovation  Through February 21, 2016
This special display of instruments made by three generations of the Sax family marks the bicentenary of the birth of Adolphe Sax

Drawn from the Museum's distinguished collection of German, French, English, and Swiss horology from the sixteenth through the nineteenth century, the extraordinary objects on view show how clocks and watches were made into lavish furniture or exquisite jewelry.  


Neue Galerie    Munch and Expressionism  February 18-June 13, 2016
 An  exhibition  examines Edvard Munch’s influence on his German and Austrian contemporaries, as well as their influence upon him.   The Neue Galerie is the sole venue for the exhibition, where it will be on view through. The exhibition will be comprised of approximately 35 paintings and 50 works on paper from both public and private collections worldwide.

 American Museum of Natural History  The Titanosaur  January 15, 2016 - January 19, 2020
Museum added another must-see exhibit to its world-famous Fossil Halls:  cast of a 122-foot-long dinosaur came to the Museum .    This species is so new that it has not yet been formally named by the paleontologists who discovered it. The titanosaur cast,  installed in the Wallach Orientation Center on the fourth floor,  replaced a life-sized—but, by comparison, diminutive—fleshed-out model of a juvenile Barosaurus that has been on display since the completion of the fourth floor in June 1996.

The Jewish Museum  The Power of Pictures: Early Soviet Photography, Early Soviet Film. Through February 7
In addition to a stunning collection of photographic and cinematic works, The Power of Pictures features a rich array of film posters and vintage books that employ radical graphic styles with extreme color, dynamic geometric designs, and innovative collages and photomontages. Also presented are examples of periodicals in which major photographic works were published.  Saturdays and late Thursdays are free.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus.    The true stars of the show are The Ringling Brothers' animals. The circus has a large herd of Asian elephants and a whole menagerie of other beautiful creatures including lions and tigers. If you don't like animal acts don't go!

New York City Center, February 18 - 20, 2016
Cinderella ballet 

Les Ballets de Monte Carlo perform a dark and sensual version of Cinderella choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot  . The ballet  strips the classic fairy tale of its sugar and explores the untold story of Cinderella's mother, a vision of lost happiness, who returns from the dead in the form of a fairy godmother. It is a poignant meditation on love and loss, in which the departed shape the future of those left behind.

The New York WILD Film Festival.
This festival is  the first annual documentary film festival in New York to showcase a spectrum of topics, from exploration and adventure to wildlife and the environment, bringing all things WILD. This event offers 17 outstanding films, premieres, receptions, and conversations with some of the world's most creative, adventurous and heroic characters.


Snow sports in Central Park

Enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding during Winter Jam, when the Central Park bandshell area is covered with blown-in snow. Bring equipment or borrow it free. Bring photo ID for sports. Free.

Like many of today’s children, Little Red is a smart, young city slicker who is too focused on her smartphone to notice her surroundings. Wulfric is a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth. When Little Red travels from New York City to the country to deliver some cupcakes to her Grandma, she encounters a colorful cast of characters as Wulfric the Wolf tries to head her off at the pass.

Central Park Ice Festival  February 13, 2016 (3 to 7 p.m.)

On Valentine’s Day weekend, celebrate your love of Central Park’s sculptures the fifth annual free Ice Festival. See carvers make romantic statues with chisels and chain saws. At 5 p.m. trade ID for headphones and dance at a “silent disco” with DJs and colored lights during Ice Festival at Naumburg Bandshell. Free.

New York Events May- June 2015

Van Gogh: Irises and Roses in Metropolitan Museum
( through August 16, 2015)

 The show includes four paintings that were part of a floral series completed by the artist, just a few short months before his death in his last weeks at the asylum Saint-Rémy/ TRhese paintings  have never been shown together.

Irises and Roses” features the Met’s own Irises and Roses shown alongside their long separated mates: Irises from  the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and Roses from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.


 China: Through the looking glass in Metropolitan Museum (through August 16,2015)
Metropolitan Museum of Art opens its largest fashion exhibition ever. "China: Through the Looking Glass," a
collaboration between the museum's Costume Institute and Department of Asian Art, which celebrates its centennial this year.



Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960–1971 in MOMA ( Museum of Modern Art)
May 17–September 7, 2015

The Museum of Modern Art presents its first exhibition dedicated exclusively to the work of Yoko Ono.During the first 11 years of her extensive career, Ono moved among New York, Tokyo, and London, serving a pioneering  
role in the international development of Conceptual art, experimental film, and performance art.



Art of the Mannequin in MAD museum (March 31, 2015 to August 30, 2015)The first museum exhibition to explore the work of renowned New York-based designer Ralph Pucci, who is widely regarded for his innovative approach to the familiar form of the mannequin. The Art of the Mannequin will include over 30 of Pucci’s most important mannequins, as well as an in-gallery recreation of his sculpture studio.


Air Show  on Jones Beach, Long Island  May 23 & 24, 2015    12PM - 5PM (Free)
 Parking Cost: $10.00 EARPLUGS are suggested for the younger viewers (under 3 years), but aren't a bad idea for some of the grown-up viewers as well. The jets can get loud.  Get there early. In the past, this show has easily seen
200,000 people fill up the beach on a single day. It is not unusual for the parking lots to be filled by 11:00am

Freedom tower ( One World) observatory will open on May 29
On the 100th floor of the Observatory, also known as the Discovery Level, Guests will experience expansive, 360-degree views in all directions, taking in the iconic sights, surrounding waters and panoramic views of the city and beyond.Price is steep- the cheapest tines ticket is 32 dollars.

 Marine Day in Bryant Park  (Free)
Thursday, May 21, 2015 Time: 6:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.

The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) will host Marine Day in Bryant Park featuring a boot camp style exercise session (6:30  a.m.), followed by USMC displays, demonstrations and a performance by the USMC Band.  Weapons and vehicles are on display from 9am - 5pm




 
Governors island Family Festival   May 23.
Family Festival will run from 12PM-4PM in Nolan Park and will feature theatrical performances by Story Pirates, the Central Park Zoo Wildlife Theater, and Arm of the Sea, live music with Astrograss and Arts in Action and  rides on The Home Spun Merry Go Round, and activities by Earth Matter,  NY Aquarium, Children’s Museum of the Arts, Brooklyn ARTery, Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, Spontaneous Interventions, and Art of Intuitive Photography.
All performances and activities are family-friendly and FREE to the public.
Ferries are free before noon and $2 round trip between noon and closing. Children under 12 always ride free.

The Manhattan ferry is in Battery Maritime Building located at 10 South Street.
Boats to Governors Island leave every half hour from 10am until 7pm on weekend.

The World Science Festival, May 27-31, NYU campus
 Festival was founded and created by Brian Greene, professor of mathematics & physics at Columbia
University and author of several science books   and Tracy Day, a four-time National News Emmy Award-winning journalist.
 The festival  will center on a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Einstein’s general theory of relativity on May
27. Mr. Greene, co-founder of the festival, will star in a dramatic re-enactment of Einstein’s discovery, which includes animation and music from the composer Jeff Beal, who has worked on “House of Cards.”

The Randall’s Island Park Alliance, the Bronx Museum of the Arts and Made Event  present FLOW annual summer art 
exhibitions along the shoreline at Randall’s Island Park in New York City.  FLOW.15 – this year's fifth annual 
exhibition  will feature new site-specific installations, all reflecting and encouraging interaction with the Park’s history and environment.

Governors island FIGMENT NYC, Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 10 AM  to 6 PM
 FIGMENT is a free, inclusive, participatory arts event held in multiple cities and drawing tens of thousands of 
participants each year. At FIGMENT visitors will find works in every imaginable medium including sculpture, installation, performance, music, workshops, games, social experiments, and heart-stopping technological innovations that change the way we see the world… and visitors are invited to bring something, too

This year, our signature festival celebrating Jewish and Chinese culture will expand to also feature the food, music 
and folk arts of the Puerto Rican community of our neighborhood. Enjoy Chinese opera, klezmer and salsa,  Yiddish, Mandarin and Spanish lessons; Hebrew and Chinese scribal art, Puerto Rican mask making, mah jongg and, of course, egg rolls, egg creams and empanadas – all kosher! 

Museum Mile Festival Tues June 9th, 2015 | 6 – 9 pm
During this annual festival, 5th Avenue is closed to traffic and becomes home to a block party, complete with musical 
and artistic entertainment for children and adults. In addition to the nine museums offering free admission, there 
are activities, musical entertainment, and artist demonstrations along Fifth Avenue. Face painting and chalk drawing along Fifth Avenue are especially fun for children.

This Valentine’s Day, celebrate your love of Central Park at our fourth annual Ice Festival. Witness ice-carving artists from Okamoto Studio  use electric chain saws, chisels, and picks to transform more than 3,000 pounds of ice into a glistening replica of the Park’s most romantic statue  ― Romeo and Juliet by Milton Hebald (1966). Free.

The Paris of Toulouse-Lautrec: Prints and Posters at Museum of Modern Art till March 22, 2015
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of an artist whose work came to define the bohemian Belle Epoque in Paris. In the late 1800s, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec won fame by depicting the performers, prostitutes and hedonistic patrons of the French capital's thriving dancehalls.  Before his death in 1901, at 36, he produced an enormous oeuvre, including more than 700 paintings and 368 prints and posters.Museum of Modern Art  presentsapproximately 100 of his printed works, selected from the museum’s permanent collection

St. Patrick's Day Parade, March 17
The St. Patrick's Day Parade is one of New York City's greatest traditions. On this day, everyone is Irish in the Big Apple!  The Parade marched for the first time on March 17, 1762 - fourteen Years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence and today it is the largest Parade in the World. The parade marches up Fifth Avenue past St. Patrick's Cathedral at 50th Street all the way up 79th Street  and the Irish Historical Society, where the parade finishes around 4:30 - 5:00 pm

Winter Jam in Central Park
January 24(Saturday) , 2015 (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) 
Enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and games during Winter Jam. Snowmakers from Gore Mountain plan to make   15 feet of snow for about the length of a football field near the Central Park Bandshell.  Activities will include sledding, snow shoeing, ski and snowboarding lessons and a winter market.   Equipment will be provided for FREE ( bring your ID)  or you can bring your own gear



Winter Carnival  in Bryant Park
January 30(Friday)- 31 (Saturday), 2015
Winter Carnival includes mini-golf on ice, winter sports, snowflakes making, lessons, ping pong, skating, and an outdoor kids’ dance party at Bryant Park. At night it will be Winter Village's first-ever Summer Skating

Throw on a Hawaiian shirt (over your sweater if you must), a straw hat, and sunglasses and join us for a spin around the ice to classic summer tunes from decades past. Costumes strongly encouraged. Groundhog Day
February 2 (Monday), 2015
Staten Island Zoo opens at 6:30 a.m., and   the groundhog Chuck looks for his shadow at 7:30 a.m.  to predict the end of winter.The zoo has four groundhogs, all with the variations of the brand name "Chuck." On the morning of Feb. 2, zoo staff selects which of the groundhogs will participate in the ceremony and be dubbed Chuck for the day. This event is FREE ( if you can make it on Monday, at 6-30!)



  Chinese New Year
February 21(Saturday), 2015
The  Annual Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade in Manhattan New York (USA) will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2015.
More than 6,000 people are expected to march , which will start at Mott Street and promenade through practically every street in of NYC Chinatown.    The parade is expected to conclude at 3:00 pm, at which time an outdoor Chinese cultural festival will take place in Sara D.

Roosevelt Park featuring more performances by musicians, dancers and martial artists.

From the high platform chopines of sixteenth-century Italy to the glamorous stilettos on today’s runways and red carpets, the exhibition looks at the high-heeled shoe’s rich and varied history and its enduring place in our popular imagination. Metropolitan Museum of Art. El Greco till February 1, 2015
 The Met’s 400th anniversary show demonstrates that El Greco saw painting as more than just a craft. It was a philosophical, intellectual and religious undertaking.  Metropolitan Museum of Art brought  out its nine El Greco paintings as well as another six lent from the Hispanic Society.

American Museum of Natural History, Upper West Side.  Butterflies
Temperatures climb to 80 degrees in the 1,200-square-foot vivarium, returning for its 16th year. The 500 specimens flying around include monarchs, zebra longwings and iridescent blue morpho butterflies.
